Tira.D.Toss. (It’s the name of a restaurant.) How would you pronounce that?
Well, it took me a couple tries, but I finally realized that the restaurant’s actually named after tiraditos, Peruvian dishes composed of raw fish. Accordingly to Wikipedia, tiraditos are representative of the influence of Japanese immigrants on Peruvian cooking! Learn something new everyday, huh?
Anyhoo, I usually get pretty excited about fusion restaurants, and this one’s been on my list for a few months now — ever since I read some good reviews about it and saw its eye-catching website — so I was happy to finally check it out! As you probably guessed by its namesake, this restaurant serves a combination of Peruvian and Japanese cuisines.
I would have to say, Tira.D.Toss doesn’t have the most economical menu from a price standpoint, but the descriptions looked good, so I was willing to give it a shot.
I ordered the Crunchy Tuna roll from the sushi section of the menu. That’s tuna, avocado, spicy mayo, and scallions roll topped with tuna, salmon, avocado, crunch and eel sauce. Mmm…
The restaurant didn’t have any eel-based rolls (my favorite) and I was starving by lunchtime, so instead of ordering something completely new as I would typically do and risk suffering through the entire meal to finish it, I went with something I knew I’d enjoy. (The waiter did mention they could add eel to any roll… but I just ordered off their regular menu to avoid complicating the process.)
Definitely glad I ordered what I did. There was lots of tuna in the roll — not little tiny pieces, but thick slices of fish! — and the eel sauce was pretty tasty. I’d give this meal a fine-good and despite the relatively high prices, would’ve certainly been up for going back if it weren’t for the (really unfortunately) rather slow service. My table of four was in and out in an hour and 45. Really though, how long does it take to make a couple rolls of sushi and a chicken salad?! We waited a while for our order to arrive at the table and then also another while for the check to arrive after we were done eating. I’ll just have to make sure I only go there on days when I can spare a long lunch… *mental note created*
Oh, and remember the view I talked about when I blogged about Sonoma? The one that you would never think to find in Doral? There’s actually a similar view from the back of Tira.D.Toss. Here’s a glimpse. FYI, it’s actually even better in person, so you should just go check it out!
